Expressing concern over the falling standards of ethics and values in the business sector, Dr. Sreedharan gave the DMRC’s example of how a company should set “benchmarks” in its core competency as well as ethics.
“The Delhi Metro always maintains a punctuality of over 99.95 per cent because within the organisation it is believed that if an employee reports late for duty he cannot run the Metro services punctually,” he said.
To all the business leaders present at the workshop which was organised by a non-governmental think tank, The Foundation for Restoration of National Values, he suggested that the head of a business entity inculcate ethics, values and integrity in his own functioning so that he emerges as a role model for the employees. “If a business leader or a bureaucrat adheres to high moral values himself and does not compromise on ethics, nobody can cause harm to him,” he added.
