'Captain' faces camera, poll rout after a days

A day after he lost his deposit in Ulundurpet and his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam was routed in the Assembly elections, ‘Captain’ Vijayakant on Friday returned where he is most comfortable – the film set.

The actor-politician posted a picture on his Twitter handle where he is seen donning the greasepaint, sitting on a swing and reading a book.

The tweet said he was shooting for a film titled ‘Tamizhan Endru Sol’ in Chennai, in which he will be teaming up with his son, Shanmuga Pandian.

Shooting for the film, which is being directed by Arun Ponambalam, began late last year but was stopped due to several attenuating circumstances.

After the political scene heated up in Tamil Nadu, the film was put on the backburner. The DMDK’s unexpected rout in the elections has given the film a new lease of life.

“We will be shooting the film in Poonamallee and other areas in Chennai. The film was stalled for several reasons. Vijayakant is playing a full-length role along with his son,” says Arun Ponnambalam, director of Tamizhan Endru Sol .

The first-time director said he would prefer not to talk about the film since Vijayakant returns to the big screen after a polarising election campaign.

“We want to go quiet on this project,” Mr. Arun said. If everything goes well, the film will come out late this year.
